Use of Thermal Image Velocimetry to Measure a Dust-Devil-Like Vortex Within a Sports Ground in a Residential Area

Abstract We investigate the characteristics of a dust-devil-like vortex (DDLV) observed using thermal image velocimetry (TIV) at sports ground in Tokyo. Thermal provides unique observations two-dimensional velocity distribution for DDLV with high spatio–temporal resolution (i.e., tens cm s ?1 ) near ground. Two DDLVs were detected, one each summer and winter, quantitative features larger, stronger winter are examined. The size strength detected DDLV, which quantified TIV, within ranges reported past numerical simulations dust devils. appears boundary cold-air current 55-m building wall, persists more than 3 min.
